Toprak Razgatlioglu’s Opportunity to MotoGP, Can Go to Any Manufacturer

Jakarta

World Superbike (SBK) racer Toprak Razgatlioglu is widely rumored to be joining MotoGP. However, it is confirmed that the Turkish racer will still take part in WorldSBK next year. This was confirmed by his manager Kenan Sofuoglu.

The WorldSBK champion has been closely linked to a seat in the MotoGP paddock over the last few seasons, especially during the 2022 season. Toprak also briefly tested the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP bike with Yamaha Factory Test Rider Cal Crutchlow in a private test at MotorLand Aragon in early June.

Even so, Sofuoglu insists the Turkish star will remain at WorldSBK in 2023 and has ruled out a move to Yamaha in MotoGP for next season.

“One thing is clear: the Yamaha MotoGP factory team has signed Quartararo. So (Toprak) has no chance,” Sofuoglu was quoted as saying by MotoGP.com.

“They talk about the B team (the satellite team) but always when I talk to Yamaha I tell them that we were never interested in being in MotoGP with the B team. If we come to MotoGP, only in the factory teams. Without that, we not interested,” he said.

It is known, In 2023, Yamaha will only have two bikes on the grid after WithU RNF confirmed that they will switch to Aprilia engines. Franco Morbidelli has already signed up for 2023, and Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP confirmed their unchanged factory line-up by announcing Fabio Quartararo has signed a two-year contract. That is, there is no room in the Yamaha MotoGP team for Razgatlioglu.

“Yamaha have lost their second team and their factory team is full, so we will be in WorldSBK next year,” continued Sofuoglu.

“One thing is clear, in 2024 we can talk to any brand, any MotoGP team. But if Toprak comes to the MotoGP paddock, he won’t come with team B (satellite team). If he comes to the paddock, it’s only with official team. Without that he will stay in WorldSBK. I will put my rider only in the official team (factory team),” he said.
