Manggarai Yasa Hall Opens, Visitors Are Very Enthusiastic

Jakarta

Balai Yasa Manggarai for the first time opened itself to the general public. Visitors are very enthusiastic.

The enthusiasm of visitors to Balai Yasa Manggarai has been seen since this morning. detikTravel visited the train workshop on Tuesday (27/9/2022) at 09.00 WIB. At that time, visitors were already lining up to start the tour.

Executive Vice President of Balai Yasa Manggarai Irwansyah said his party did not expect the enthusiasm of visitors to be this high. This can be seen from the online registration which is filled by thousands of people.

“The online registration enthusiasm yesterday had a waiting list of up to 5,000 people. We wanted an open house to be open, but if it reached 5,000 people it would be like a concert later. The education didn’t even arrive,” he said.

Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that Balai Yasa Manggarai cannot accommodate all applicants. They impose a limited quota.

“We limit registration on the first day to 1,000 people. Today 2,000 people. Tomorrow it’s still in 500 positions, possibly up to 2,000 people,” he said.

In addition to educational reasons, the limited visitor quota is also related to visitor safety. As is known, Balai Yasa Manggarai is a workshop where train maintenance and repairs are carried out so that visitors must be really monitored for safety.

“Since we maintain safety rules, safety issues must be obeyed,” he said.

Regarding the safety of visitors, all who take a tour at Balai Yasa Manggarai must wear a special helmet. In addition, visitors are also guided to tour the workshop in groups.

One of the visitors, Aldi Amri, revealed that he had come from his house in Tanjung Priok and took time off from work to see the contents of the Manggarai Yasa Center. He himself is a fan of trains or what is known as railfans.

“I’ve been trying to register since Sunday but when I saw Monday it was already full. There were only Tuesdays. Just come,” he said.

Aldi said he was happy to see the train repair shop in person. He also learned a lot during his time there.

“It’s a good experience to be able to walk around Balai Yasa Manggarai. The staff are polite and friendly,” he said.

“I can get around the carriages that I’ve never seen inside. Then look at the locomotives, especially the old locomotives like the PB-306, Bonbon, and others,” he added.

The opening of the Manggarai Yasa Center to the public was carried out in commemoration of the 77th Anniversary of PT KAI. The Manggarai Yasa Center will be open from 26-28 September 2022. In addition, other Yasa Centers, such as Yogyakarta Yasa Center and Surabaya Yasa Center, Gubeng also hold the same open house.
