Lorenzo: Yamaha has lost its way, but has a rider close to Marquez’s level

MotoGP legend, Jorge Lorenzo, talks about his former team, Yamaha. According to Lorenzo, currently Yamaha seems to have lost its way in MotoGP. But on the other hand, the manufacturer from Iwata, Japan, has a formidable racer whose technical level is close to that of Marc Marquez.

Yamaha has indeed succeeded in winning MotoGP 2021 with its flagship racer, Fabio Quartararo. But in the 2022 season, Yamaha and Quartararo have to fight hard to find their best performance while other teams such as Ducati and Suzuki appear more confident in the first 4 MotoGP series in 2022.

“(Fabio is having a hard time) because Yamaha has lost its way a little or has developed less compared to other brands. He is in one of the worst moments of the last 20 years, or the last 17 years, since before Valentino (Rossi) arrived,” Lorenzo was quoted as saying Motosan.

According to Lorenzo, Fabio Quartararo raced superbly and he could reach the limits of his bike, but it was not enough to get him on the podium. “It’s psychologically difficult for him, but I don’t see a much better option than that,” Lorenzo continued.

Lorenzo continued to add, Quartararo could have gone to Honda or Ducati, but it looks like he will have difficulties there. But from the skill aspect, Quartararo is clearly a top racer with abilities close to the level of the Repsol Honda rider, Marc Marquez.

“There was talk that he (Fabio) could go to Honda, but it’s a very difficult bike. He’s very used to being okay cornering, and vice versa, the Honda is difficult to ride. And on Ducati there seems to be no room, which for me is the best bike at the moment. It’s not an ideal situation for him, but in handling and technique, he (Fabio) is at a very close level to Marc,” said Lorenzo.
