After a long time of being an enigma, Fabio Quartararo’s future in MotoGP is now certain. The French rider has officially extended his contract with Yamaha for the next two years. This means that Quartararo will be a Yamaha factory team rider until 2024.
Quartararo’s future at Yamaha had become a hot issue in MotoGP. Because there has never been any sign that Quartararo will extend his cooperation with the manufacturer from Iwata when his contract situation ends this 2022 season.
On several occasions, Quartararo always complained about the performance of the Yamaha YZR-M1 which always lost in top speed compared to its competitors. This also became one of the obstacles for Quartararo when he wanted to extend his contract with the manufacturer bearing the tuning fork.
Seeing the uncertain situation, the racer nicknamed El Diablo was also briefly linked with a move to a rival team, Honda. In his statement, Fabio Quartararo seemed to give a signal that he could join any manufacturer if he left Yamaha.
But the drama has ended. Quartararo and Yamaha have agreed to cooperate until the next 2024 season. On his personal Instagram, Quartararo expressed his happiness to be a part of Yamaha even longer.
“I am very happy to announce to all of you that I will stay with Yamaha for another two years. In the past, going up to MotoGP with Yamaha and then to a factory team was not difficult. I don’t take it lightly,” Quartararo wrote.
“But to say this new deal is a big decision. I am at a good point in my career, so I took a little more time to take this decision to be sure. I believe in Yamaha’s MotoGP project, and I feel Yamaha really motivated,” he continued.
“And now that we have officially confirmed our decision to continue this partnership, (so) we can fully focus on this season. I want to say ‘Thank you!’ to the people around me, who have always helped and supported me, and to the fans who supported me. I really appreciate all the support,” Quartararo said.
With this agreement, it is certain that the composition of the factory team riders, Monster Energy Yamaha, will be filled by Fabio Quartararo and also Franco Morbidelli. These two riders will be Yamaha’s mainstay in competing in the highest caste, because Yamaha will not have a satellite team.
