Honda and Yamaha had to work hard to concoct the best motorbikes to be able to compete on the MotoGP 2023. On the other hand, Ducati, which is so powerful with winning the triple crown for the 2022 season, doesn’t need to make a major overhaul of the Desmosedici motorbike. Just small changes.
The team and riders carried out pre-season tests at the Valencia Circuit, Spain (8/11/2022) before embarking on the 2023 MotoGP. Several riders immediately appeared convincing in this test session, while several other riders were still complaining about their motorbikes.
For example Fabio Quartararo. The Monster Energy Yamaha racer was annoyed because the Yamaha YZR-M1 2023 was still slow or not as powerful as the 2022 version of the YZR-M1. Even though El Diablo had high expectations, considering that the 2023 YZR-M1 that was tried at the Misano Circuit was quite fast and powerful.
Marc Marquez also experienced problems with Repsol Honda. Marquez believes that there should be major changes to the Honda RC213V 2023 engine. This is because the motorbike he tried at the Valencia Circuit was not strong enough on the straight track and felt very weak in corners.
Unlike Honda and Yamaha, Ducati, which has the most perfect motorbikes in MotoGP, no longer needs to carry out major overhauls in the engine department. The Borgo Panigale manufacturer only needs to make a few changes in the aerodynamics sector.
“What we need is evolution, not revolution (massive changes) to the motorbike. So, that means, we don’t have to start all over again, we just need to make a few specifications improvements,” said Ducati Lenovo racer, Francesco Bagnaia, quoted from Tuttomotoriweb.
In the test session on Tuesday, Bagnaia was only ranked 11th. But it’s not a big deal for him. Because Bagnaia didn’t chase after him lap timeand he only focused on finding the best tire settings.
“I didn’t time attack, we don’t need it. With medium tires I feel very comfortable. I’m happy with how today went,” said the 2022 MotoGP world champion.
“How’s the new fairing? I found a good improvement in terms of handling. But on the straights I feel more airflow, and maybe something to the contrary. But basically I see this as a step forward. We’ll see how it goes “We still have time to make a choice,” he said.
